The explainer
In 1998 you learned what a website is. In 2005, what Google ranking means. This is the same moment – just faster.
GEO – the craft of getting AI assistants to recommend you when your customers ask – is not magic. But it follows different rules than Google. Here they are, in five minutes.
How it's measured
What happens when someone asks an AI – and how we turn it into a number.
Schritt 1
The question panel
We collect hundreds of questions your customers ask every day in some form – casual, with typos, the way real people type. These questions stay identical for months; otherwise the comparison would be worthless.
Schritt 2
Four AI assistants, every question several times
Every question goes to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity – several times each, because AI answers vary. A single measurement tells you nothing; a sample does. Like an election poll.
Schritt 3
The evaluation
For every answer we record: are you mentioned? In what position? In what tone? And who else gets recommended? Every answer is stored verbatim – you can read the evidence behind every number.
Schritt 4
The visibility score
The result is a number from 0 to 100: your visibility score. Being mentioned counts, being recommended counts more, being first counts most. Re-measured every month with the same questions.
SEO vs. GEO
Google shows ten links. The AI gives one answer.
| Google search | AI answer |
|---|---|
| Google shows 10 links | The AI gives 1 answer |
| The game is clicks | The game is recommendations |
| Ranking high wins visitors | Being named wins trust |
| Result: a list to choose from | Result: advice people follow |
| Contested for twenty years | The seats are being assigned now |
What it depends on
What makes an AI recommend you?
Reliability
AIs recommend who they trust – businesses with clear, consistent information behind them.
Mentions
Are you named in places the AI takes seriously? Trade articles, directories, press – real traces, not ad promises.
Understandable content
Short, clear paragraphs that fully answer one question get quoted. Ad copy gets ignored.
Consistency
Name, location, offering – written the same way everywhere. Anything contradictory drops out of the answer.
